Put That Stress Away

Now, I'm probably the last person who should give advice on how to survive the last month of school, because let's be honest I'm a basket case now more than ever, but I thought I'd share a few tips on how I manage to survive the dreaded stress that comes with finals. The worst part about the last month of school is the wind down. All of your assignments are suddenly due, you have to start picking next year's classes, apply for scholarships, find a summer job (actually you should have started that about two months ago, trust me), and all at the same time.
Even though all these responsibilities are overwhelming there are some things that help me come out the other end sane. And the best part is that they work in any time if stress, not just during finals!
1. Take time every day to relax. Now I know that I take too much time to relax on a daily basis, but during those really busy days, it is so important to take a moment to breathe. It gives you a moment to recharge so you can continue with your busy day. Whether it means watching Netflix, working out, reading your bible, praying, having a nap, or having coffee with a friend, do it.
2. Pamper yourself. Now this goes along with number 1, but I think it deserves its own point. It's proven that when you make and effort to feel/look good you are naturally inclined to perform better on tests and in general be more productive. That being said I think you should also treat yourself. Use rewards to motivate you to accomplish tasks on your to do list. So go take a shower, do your hair and makeup, put on a cute and comfy outfit (or whatever makes you feel good), and when you get something done, go buy that venti Starbucks and take a bath. You deserve it.
3. Make a list. Write down everything you need to get done and cross it off as you go! Not only does it help you remember what you need to do, but there is nothing more satisfying than seeing all your tasks crossed off your list!
4. Accountability. Tell someone what you have to do. Just the knowledge that someone else knows what you have to get done can motivate you to do it.
5. Set a deadline. Most assignments already have a due date, but not everything in life comes with one. Give yourself a deadline for each task so you aren't overwhelmed and have to finish everything all at once! Also set alarms and reminders on your phone, that'll help you stay on schedule!
6. DON'T IGNORE YOUR FRIENDS AND FAMILY. Yeah sure, that assignment may be worth 50% of your mark and you need a summer job to pay for school next year, but that isn't all what life is about. In a few years you won't remember this stuff anyway, so remember not to neglect the people in your life who are supporting you through it. Plus, it's more fun to celebrate your accomplishments with others! Just remember that there are people who love you regardless of your GPA. (But also, don't use that as an excuse to give up, you'll just end up disappointing yourself. Bummer)

7. Go outside. This one is hard for me. I usually lock myself away in my room and don't go outside unless it's absolutely necessary. But some fresh air and a change of scenery can really help clear my mind. And lets be honest, the view outside is usually way prettier than the one on your computer screen!

Remember, in addition to all of these things, actually doing what needs to be done helps a ton! So take what I've told you with a grain of salt and find what works for you! Leave a comment telling me ways you've found that help you survive stressful seasons! Thanks for reading (and if you're in school, good luck with finals)!
